A
  • Review divisional risk assessment and understand potential risks
  • Request necessary information regarding known risks on site including the asbestos register
  • Check whether any PPE is required with building manager / anything should be aware of
  • Inform my buddy that I am going on inspection – timings and location, also let them know when leaving
  • Ensure mobile is fully charged
    Arrange access
    Organise correct PPE.

A

We have key proecedures that we have to follow:
o So: ensure team is aware of arrangements
(which we share our work diaries and use a buddy system)
o Fully charged mobile
o Know company’s safe word and that team know what to do in the event it is needed

  • Ensure have a full understanding of the identity of the person and take precautions to check they are genuine and who they say they are

  • Hazard – anything that can cause harm
  • Risk – The chance that the hazard will cause harm and how serious that could be

What PPE might you have to use?

A
  • Hard hats – must be replaced according to manufacture instructions. Often this is 3 yearly.
  • Gloves
  • Non slip shoes / steel toed boots. Steel boots also require reinforced soles and ankle support.
  • Hi vis
  • Goggles
  • Dangers of forklifts – sight lines are limited. Where high vis and stay out of the way.

  • Under the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995 (RIDDOR), injuries must be reported when causing incapacitation greater than 7 days
  • Injury must be reported to the HSE within 15 days of the accident
  • Keep information in accident book for min 3 years after the date of the accident
