Causes
Infection (sexually transmitted infections-gonorrhea, chlamydia) most common cause.
Presentation—pain, redness, swelling scrotal area
(unilateral-one side)
Pain relieved with lifting of testicles.
Test for STI
Treatment—analgesics, antibiotics, and supportive brief
Testicular torsion
Testicular torsion is a twisting of the spermatic cord that results in partial or complete venous occlusion and rotation of testicle.
Causes: With and without trauma, Spermatic cord anatomical defect
Presentation: sudden, severe scrotal pain (unilateral - one side), nausea, and vomiting.
Surgical emergency to prevent necrosis and permanent ischemic damage.
Delay in treatment may be associated with decreased fertility, or may necessitate orchiectomy.
PID (Pelvic inflammatory disease)
Infection of upper genital tract
Untreated STI migrates upward to ovaries and fallopian tubes (Salpingitis)
Inflammation, scarring, and narrowing of the fallopian tubes-infertility

- Typically average weight or slightly below
- Diabulimia-Type 1 diabetics-reduce or stop taking insulin to lose weight
- Considerations for AN and BN
- Cardiac, interdisciplinary treatment
