What is absolute poverty?
Consistent across all countries.
Indicators are dirty water, lack of sanitation, shelter, poor nutrition and insufficient calories. Lack of essential medical and maternity care. No access to information
What is relative poverty?
Defined in relation to a measure in the country where the person lives. Relative poverty is less than 60% of national median.
Deep poverty less than 40%.
What is the social gradient?
Social gradient is how life expectancy is closely linked with social class and employment.
What is life course?
Life course is the accumulation of dis/advantage from before birth is carried throughout life effective health and life expectancy.
What are the Whitehall studies?
Whitehall studies show evidence of social gradient. Poor social status is more biologically stressful and in poorer physical and mental health.
What is the nation statistics tic socio economic classification?
(NS-SEC) is a scale that determines a persons class by the job that they have.
