What is Violence. How does Violence make us feel unsafe
Violence is the physical contact or assault, but also involves non-physical contact or verbal abuse such as bullying, harassment, etc. We have a right to feel safe and when we are we have a positive sense. We lose this sense when we are around violence
What is Gang violence, How can we prevent gang violence
gang violence is caused by gang members who share a common trait such as race, gender, ethnicity, etc. These Gangs are popular in schools for causing violence, though there acts are always committed off school ground and brought back into schools. They often use intimidation and extortion to get what they want. To stop this violence, Students are encouraged to report it, and their schools are encouraged to stop a gang forming in the first place
What is Swarming, How do we deal with swarms
Swarming is an assault that includes multiple people. These swarms often include gangs and can be life threatening. There are certain things one can do to deal with a swarm. We are encouraged to avoid these swarms if possible but if not, try to run away and call for help. If that’s not even possible we should comply with there demands while trying to find there identification so we can report them to the police
What is Harassment, What is often misjudged as harassment
Harassment is any unwanted, uninvited remark’s, gestures, or actions that make a person feel unsafe.
This includes unwanted physical touching such as grabbing or pocking. It also includes unwanted cat calls, or embarrassing whistles, along with demining names and rude jokes or remarks. This behavior is directed a someone because of there gender, race, sexuality, etc.
Its important to recognize that some actions are not harassment such as mutual flirtation, personal compliments, or even a hug between friends
What is bullying
Bullying creates a climate of harassment and fear. The victims of bullying feel alone and lose the confidence. In these situations the bullies are also hurt as the reason they bully’s is because they received rejection by their peers and teacher. Bullying is unwanted touching, hitting gang ups, name calling, etc.
What is hitchhiking
Hitchhiking is when one receives a ride form someone they don’t know. This action is extremally dangerous as when you enter some ones car you don’t know where they will take you or who they are. To prevent ever needing to hitchhike, you should prepare backup ways to get home so you don’t need to out yourself in danger
What is violence in relationships
Developing healthy relationships is an important skill in life. These relationships could be a family, friend, or even someone you have affection towards relationships.
All good relationships have things in common such as being loyalty, being kind, having the ability to forgive and compromise, having respect for yourself and others, and even being honest.
A un-Healthy relationship has the opposite factors in it such as hurting each others feelings, threats to get what is wanted, pressured to do something unwanted, etc. As young adolescents, we can address this issue by understanding what emotional abuse is, what sexual assault is, etc.
How can Students, Teachers, And even Whole class’s help deal with violence
There are multiple ways to we all can deal with violence but there are certain ways we can deal with it depending on what we are.
As Students, we need to understand the limits of both acceptable and unacceptable behavior as well as have the ability to stop and think about what what we are about to do will affect others
As Teachers, they need to show how they will deal with harassment as well as learn if harassment is occurring through there students and if it is, they need to involve the community to make sure it will stop
As a Class, We need to learn about positive ways to treat each other and wall as how to deal with negative emotions that can cause violence in a positive way
What is assertiveness
Assertiveness is being able to stand up for ourselves. Adolescents are easily manipulated with peer pressure but when we are assertive, we overcome it. Assertiveness involves standing up for our rights and beliefs as well as using assertive words such as “I” statements and cooperative words such as “how can we work this out”.
What is Conflict resolution
Conflict resolution is a lifelong skill that we all need to learn so we can live in a safe environment. Conflict is a argument is disagreement between 2 or more people who both think they know what’s right. They are multiple ways to work out conflicts
- Don’t wait for someone else to solve your problems. Even if your mad in the moment, Cool down and then re-evaluate the issue
- Find the issue of the disagreement. Involve everyone to try to find a solution
- Try to understand the other persons “right way”. Think of how they might see the solution and figure out a way to combine everyone’s solutions
- Take responsibly and figure out how you are a part of the problem
-Work together to find the right solution and solve the problem together
