- biological: viruses causing disease
- non-biological determinants: education level
- individuals have less control over health: early environment, living conditions, genetics etc.
- often complex interplay of multiple factors

A
- connects physical health w/ well-being (mental health)
- health is dynamic, always changing based on the environment, community, and biologically

what is a diseased animal?
A
disease: disorder of structure of function in an animal, especially one that produces specific symptoms or that affects a specific location and includes physical injury
- poor welfare increase susceptibility to disease
- disease can cause poor welfare
- disease -> poor welfare -> more disease -> worse welfare -> death
