What are the HCPC?
Provides legal regulations since 2009. Used to be BPS. They protect the public and ensure good practice. Can be prosecuted and recieve a fine if not adhering
What does the guideline ‘communicate appropriately and effectively’ mean?
Clinicians must listen to the needs of service users and carers and consider their needs and wishes, language needs must be met and relevent infor must be given
What does the guideline ‘delegate appropriately’ mean?
Only delegate work to someone who has the knowledge, skills and experience needed to carry it out safely and effectively
What does the guideline ‘work within the limits of your knowledge and skills’ mean?
To keep within the scope of your practice by only practicing in the areas you have the knowledge and experience, delegate if necessary and develop knowledge
What does the guideline ‘keep record or your work’ mean?
To keep full, clear and accurate records for everyone you care for, treat or provide services to. Records must be kept secure
What does the guideline ‘be honest and trustworthy’ mean?
Be honest about your experience, qualifications and skills and declare issues that might be conflicts of interest
What does the guideline ‘manage risk’ mean?
You must take all reasonable steps to reduce the risk of harm to service users, carers and colleagues. You must not do anything that would put a client as considerable risk
What does the guideline ‘promote and protect the interests of service users and carers’ mean?
That individuals must be treated with respect and must be involved in decisions and encouraged to maintain their own health and must not be discriminated against
What does the guideline ‘report concerns about safety’ mean?
Report any concerns about service users safety and well being. Support and encourage others to do the same. Take appropriate action if you have concerns of wellbeing
What does the guideline ‘be open when things go wrong’ mean?
Inform service users that something has gone wrong in their treatment or diagnosis and apologise and take action to put it life
What happens if you don’t adhere to guidelines?
You are given a fine and can be prosecuted
What do the standards relate to?
character, health, conduct/performance/ethics, proficiency, continuing professional development, education and training and prescription
What is guideline 1.1?
Know the limits of their professional practice and when to seek advice or refer to another professional
What is guideline 2.6?
Understand the importance of informed consent and be able to obtain it
What is guideline 3.2?
Understand the importance of maintaining their own health
