In regards to Server Hard Drives, what does LFF and SMF mean?
LFF = 3.5” and SMF = 2.5”
Should SAS or SATA hard drives be used?
Depends on the application.
SAS is better for Servers (or continous R/W)
SATA is better for storage (& quicker Simplex W’s). Its often used in Desktops as its cheaper
what do the connection standards SCSI, SATA and SAS stand for?
SCSI: (or szuzzy) Stands for “small computer systems interface.” and transmits in parallel
Sata: Serial Advanced Technology Attachment, which repaced SCSI (or scuzzy)
SAS: “serial attached SCSI.” which replaces SATA
How fast is SATA?
Sata 1 is 1.5Gb/s with a throughput of 150MB/s
Sata 2 is 3Gb/s with a throughput of 300MB/s
Sata 3 is 6Gb/s with a throughput of 500MB/s
