Handle Work- Directional Commands Flashcards
1
Q
What things need to be considered when teaching client turns?
A
- Clients hand and handle should remain still otherwise this will prompt the dog to turn.
- The Handler should ensure that the dog remains stationary until the client provides command. This maintains orientation; straight line position = stay.
- If the dog is easily stimulated, reduce hand signal.
- Handler should use a quiet, calm tone of voice.
- Handler should allow adequate space/room for the dog to move.
- Handler should use appropriate hand movements (within their own personal space) so they don’t hit other people.
