Handle Work- Directional Commands Flashcards

1
Q

What things need to be considered when teaching client turns?

A
  • Clients hand and handle should remain still otherwise this will prompt the dog to turn.
  • The Handler should ensure that the dog remains stationary until the client provides command. This maintains orientation; straight line position = stay.
  • If the dog is easily stimulated, reduce hand signal.
  • Handler should use a quiet, calm tone of voice.
  • Handler should allow adequate space/room for the dog to move.
  • Handler should use appropriate hand movements (within their own personal space) so they don’t hit other people.
