Risk factors: • Risk factors include obesity, repetitive wrist work, pregnancy, rheumatoid
arthritis and hypothyroidism

• Symptoms: paraesthesia in the distribution of the median nerve,
manual dexterity is diminished • Signs: long-standing carpal tunnel syndrome can result in muscle • weakness and atrophy of the thenar muscles
