Hand Muscles Flashcards
Origin of Oppennes pollicis
- Scaphoid tubercle
- Trapezium tubercle
Insertion of Oppennes pollicis
Lateral side of 1st metacarpal
What does the Oppennes pollicis do?
Opposes thumb
What innervates the Oppennes pollicis?
Median Nerve
Origin of Abductor Pollicis Brevis
- Scaphoid Tubercle
- Trapezium Tubercle
Insertion of abductor Pollicis Brevis
Lateral side of base of proximal phalanx of thumb
What does the abductor Pollicis Brevis do?
Abducts thumb
What innervates the abductor pollicis brevis
Median Nerve
Origin of the flexor pollicis brevis
- Scaphoid Tubercle
- Trapezium Tubercle
Insertion of the flexor pollicis brevis
Lateral side of base of proximal phalanx of thumb
What does the flexor pollicis brevis do?
flexes the thumb
What innervates the flexor pollicis brevis?
Ulnar Nerve
Origin of the adductor pollicis
bases of 2nd and 3rd metacarpals, capitate, and adjacent carpals
anterior surface of body of 3rd metacarpal
Insertion of the adductor pollicis
Medial side of base of proximal phalanx of thumb
What does the adductor pollicis do?
Adducts thumb toward lateral border of palm
What innervates the adductor pollicis?
Ulnar Nerve
Origin of the abductor digiti minimi
Pisiform
insertion of the abductor digiti minimi
Medial side of base of proximal phalanx of little finger
What does the abductor digiti minimi do?
Abducts pinky
What is the abductor digiti minimi innervated by?
Ulnar Nerve
Origin of the flexor digiti minimi
- Hook of Hamate
- Flexor Retinaculum
Insertion of the flexor digiti minimi
Medial side of base of proximal phalanx of little finger
What does the flexor digiti minimi do?
Flexes proximal phalanx of little (5th) finger
What innervates the flexor digiti minimi?
Ulnar nerve
Origin of the opponens digiti minimi
- Hook of Hamate
- Flexor Retinaculum
Insertion of the opponens digiti minimi
Medial border of 5th metacarpal
What does the opponens digiti minimi do?
Draws 5th metacarpal anteriorly and rotates it, bringing little finger (5th digit) into opposition with thumb
What is the opponens digiti minimi innervated by?
Ulnar Nerve
Origin of the palmar interosseous muscles
Palmar surfaces of 2nd, 4th and 5th metacarpals (as unipennate muscles)
Insertion of the palmar interosseous muscles
Extensor expansions of digits and bases of proximal phalanges of 2nd, 4th, and 5th digits
What do the palmar interosseous muscles do?
Adduct 2nd, 4th, and 5th digits toward axial line and assists the lumbricals in flexing metacarpophalangeal joints and extending interphalangeal joints
What are the palmar interosseous muscles innervated by?
Ulnar Nerve
Origin of the dorsal interosseous muscles
Adjacent sides of two metacarpals (as bipennate muscles)
Insertion of the dorsal interosseous muscles
Extensor expansions and bases of proximal phalanges of 2nd – 4th digits
What do the dorsal interosseous muscles do?
Abduct 2nd – 4th digits from axial line and act with lumbricals to flex metacarpophalangeal joints and extend interphalangeal joints
What are the dorsal interosseous muscles innervated by?
Ulnar Nerve
Origin of the Lumbricals
Tendons of flexor digitorum profundus (palmar side of hand)
Insertion of the Lumbricals
Lateral sides of extensor expansion of 2nd – 4th digits (dorsal side of hand)
What do the lumbricasl do?
Finger flexion at the metacarpophalangeal jointand finger extension at the interphalangeal joint
What innervates the lumbricals?
Median and Ulnar Nerves
