1
Q
What tendons are found in the first compartment?(2)
A
- Abductor pollicis longus(APL)
2. Extensor pollicis brevis (EPB)
2
Q
Action of Abductor pollicis longus(APL)?
A
Moves thumb into radial abduction
3
Q
Action of Extensor pollicis brevis (EPB)?
A
Extends the MP joint of the thumb.
4
Q
What is De Quervain disease?
A
Is the thickening tendon sheath and the accumulation of mucopolysaccharides indicating mucus degenerate within the 1st dorsal compartment, APL and EPB.
5
Q
How is De Quervain disease clinically diagnosed?
A
- Pain in first dorsal compartment
- TTP tendons 1-2cm proximal to radial styloid.
- Pos Finkelstine test
- Pain with resisted thumb extension
6
Q
What is jersey finger and MOI?
A
- Rupture to the flexor digitorum profundis (FDP)tendon
- unable to actively flex IP joint
- MOI forced flexion of IP joint, like grabbing a jersey.
- injury requires surgical fixation
7

A
- Extensor carpi radialis longus(ECRL)
2. Extensor carpi radialis brevis(ECRB)
8
Q
