Brachial Plexus Flashcards
From proximal to distal, the brachial plexus consists of? (5)
- Randy – Roots
- Travis – Trunks
- Drinks – Divisions
- Cold – Cords
- Beer – Branches
How many roots and which ones?
- 5 Roots
2. C5, C6, C7, C8,T1
How many trunks? Names?
- 3
2. Upper, middle and lower trunk
How are trunks divided?
- C5+C6 = Upper trunk
- C7 = Middle trunk
- C8+T1 = Lower trunk
Which nerves come form the roots?(2)
- Dorsal scapular N. (C4, C5)
2. Long thoracic N. (C5, C6, C7)
Dorsal scapular N innervates what? Roots?
- Rhomboid muscles and Levator scapulae
2. C4,C6,C5
Long thoracic N innervates what? Roots?
- Serratus anterior
2. C5, C6, C7
How do the trunks divide to form divisions? Where?
- Each trunk splits into Anterior and Posterior divisions 2.Just behind and above the clavicle.
Which nerves come form the divisions?(2)
- Nerve to the subclavius C5, C6
2. Suprascapular nerve C5, C6
Nerve to the subclavius innervates what? Roots?
- Subclavius muscle
2. C5,C6
Suprascapular N innervates what? Roots?
- Supraspinatus and Infraspinatus
2. C5, C6
How do the divisions form the cords?
- Anterior divisions of Upper and Middle trunks = Lateral cord (C5-C7)
- Posterior divisions of All 3 trunks = Posterior cord (C5-T1)
- Anterior division of Lower trunks = Medial cord (C8-T1)
What does the Posterior cord turn in to? (5)
- Axillary: C5, C6
- Radial: C6, C7, C8, 1 T
- Upper subscapular: C5, C6
- Lower subscapular: C5, C6
- Thoracodorsal: C5, C6, C7
What is the lateral core formed form?
The anterior divisions of the upper (C5-C6) and middle trunks (C7).
What does the lateral cord turn in to? (3)
- Lateral pectoral nerve (C5, C6, C7)
- Musculocutaneous nerve (C5, C6)
- Median nerve (partial; C6, C7)
