Hair root and hair shaft?
The hair root is located below the epidermis , the hair shaft is the portion of the hair that projects about the epidermis
Hair follicle, Hair bulb, Dermal Papilla, Arrector pili muscle, and sebaceous glands ?
1) Hair Follicle- Tube like depression or pocket in the skin or scalp that contains the hair root
2) Hair Bulb- Is the lowest part of a hair strand
3) Dermal Papilla- small cone shaped elevation located at the base and d the hair follicle that fits into the hair bulb.
Contains the blood and nerve supply that provides the nutrients
4) Arrector Pili Muscle- small involuntary muscle in the base of the hair follicle
5) Sebaceous glands- Oil glands in the skin that are connected to the hair follicles
Cortex
Middle layer of the hair. About 90% of the total weight of the hair comes from the cortex.
Medulla
Is the innermost layer of the hair.
Its common for people with fine hair to not have a medulla at all!
Terminal hair
Long coarse pigmented hair found on the scalp, legs and arms
Growth Cycles Of Hair ? (3)
Anagen Phase- growth phase, new hair is produced
Catagen Phase- brief transition period between the growth and resting phase
Telogen Phase- Resting phase, final phases and last until the hair is fully grown, and shedded
