A

Henry had to travel much more
England is pretty secure and intensely governed compared to Normandy - his french dominions are internally divided

A

Stephen retored the power of the earls - 25-30 in 1154
But by 1200 only 12 earls remain
Henry took away earls penny where earls could claim a small portion of local taxation

What does Henry do with sheriffs in the first 2 years of his reign

A

In the opening 2 years he sacks 2/3 of sheriffs and replaces them with his own
By 1162 another half are sacked so Henry is left with 1/6 of Stephens original sheriffs

A

Seizure of casltes,
Stripping of their titles
Legal reforms - people used more royal offices rather than baronial courts
In 1157: Hugh Bigod and William count of Boulogne rebelled against the king
