How much space should be around the hydrant?
What can AFD remove from around hydrant?
a clear radius of 3 feet must be maintained around hydrant
AFD can remove a small amounts or brush as necessary to keep the hydrant from becoming out of service

When there is too much brush around hydrant what should be done?
A Brush/Obstruction Removal Notification Letter (found in forms) should be given to resident notifying them they have 10 days to remove obstruction.

What happens if the homeowner has not removed the obstruction in the given amount of time?
If after 10 days the obstruction remains then an Inspection Report should written.
Owner should receive a copy of report and notification that they have 15 days to remove obstruction.
The report should be entered into RMS, and if no action taken by 15 days reported to Prevention.

When a hydrant is being entered into RMS as an Inspection what codes should be used.
Hydrant should be entered in the Inspection tab of RMS as HYD for inspection type and enter 5.2 Fire Hydrant Blocked or Obstructed: second instance
If no clearing after the 15 day period then:
Hydrant should be entered under the hydrant tab as requiring obstruction/brush removal. Be as specific as possible regarding the type of obstruction. add comments referred to prevention.

How should OOS hydrants be marked by AFD?
marked by a clear plastic bag over them

What happens when AWU places a OOS hydrant back in service?
The Hydrant Liaison Specialist will make corrections in RMS and return hydrant to in service status.

Why should you not bag a hydrant without CoA threads?
The reason that we bag and enter hydrants into RMS is so they can get fixed, this is just a county hydrant use the purple hydrant adapter.
