non-reportable STI
one of three leading causes of STI
linked with PROM, preterm delivery, PID
s/s
Males: typically asymptomatic
Females: profuse, malodorusm yellow-green vaginal discharge or no symptoms
physcial findings
strawberry cervix
foul smelling frothy discharge
erythemous vaginal mucosa
Trich diagnostic testing
wet mount- jerky motion, flashing flagella
NAAT- 3-5 times higher detection than wet mount
OSOM trich rapid test - results in 10 min
Trich treatment
metronidazole
tinidazole
metronidazone dose
2g PO single dose or
500mg PO BID X7 days
follow up
none required unless discharge persists
treatment failure once
repeat metronidazole 1g BID for 7 days or
2g daily for 3-5 days
if treatment fails twice with single dose metr
metronidazole 500mg PO BID for 7 days or tinidazole 2g PO fpr 5 days
tinidazole dose
2g single dose
alternative treatment
metroniazole 500mg PO BID X7 days
how long should abstinence be practced?
until treatment complete and symptom free
who else needs treated?
all partners
who needs re-testing?
