gonnorrhea
can be asymptomatic and can lead to PID
s/s
May be asymptomatic
Females: cervicitis, PID, perihepatitis, bartholinitis, vaginal discharge and adb pain
Males: urethral infections, penile discharge and dysuria
discharge is profuse, think, green
rectal/pharyngeal may be asymptomatic
Gonnorrhea diagnostic testing
culture- req specimin from female endocervical or male urethral swab and require special handling
NAAT- when used with mucosal discharge or urine is highly sensitive
Gram stain for gram neg diplococci in acutely ill patients
in treatment failure after NAAT- culture and sensiticuty should be done
Gonn Treatment
ceftriaxone
azithromycin
ceftriaxone
250mg IM once
azithromycin
1G single dose PO
if ceftraxone not availbale use
cefixime 400mg PO
AND
Azithro 1gPO
if patient is allergic to cephlosporin
azithrimycin 2g PO single dose
Treatment dose goal
one time dose!
report treatment failures ti CDC through state health department within 24 hours
is TOC recommended

who should follow up
pharyngeal gonn who are treated with alt treatments need TOC after 14 days
anyone with complications
what partners need eval and treatment?
any within 60 days before onset of symptoms or diagnosis
who gets tested and when?
same as chlymadia except with MSM also test pharynx
NAAT can check for both at same time
