What were the slave codes?
they were laws that restricted the lives of slaves including learning to read or meet in groups. They had no legal rights
What was the task system?
daily set of jobs on the [small] plantations; had personal time after jobs were completed
What were gang systems?
groups of slaves labored all day under a “driver,” often another slave, chosen due to loyalty or willingness to cooperate.
