It is influenced by how groups go through them before starting their tasks.
Can be a time-consuming and difficult process for the members.

I. Forming

What is Forming?
– Beginning to know one another
– Has a group leader(Rely on)
– Members; Polite, Quiet, Pleasant, and Positive + Confusion, Anxiety, and Uncertainty.
– Interaction; Cautious.
– Major Goals, Tasks + Leadership nature; Not yet determined, Must learn + the rules.
- Should not be rushed(To build trust & openness)
What is Storming?
– Highest Level of Disagreement and Conflict
– Hard to come to a group consensus(Cohesive Unit) * More individual
– Members; Become more comfortable - True Personality becomes clear.
– Conflicts; Share opposing opinions/ideas, Concerns, Criticism
Over power and hierarchy. (Unseat/Overthrow leader)
Challenge Goals
– Goals; Clearer, not how to specifically reach them.
– If can’t resolve conflict = Disband/ Remain in this stage. (Ineffective)
– Pleasant/Positive experience if overcome. (Health & Normal, as most pass it, and become a well-functioning, productive)
What is Norming?
– Members; Close + Work together(Develop group cohesion & identity)
– Socialise outside.
– Open communication & Discussion independently
– Goals, Tasks, Roles, Responsibilities; Clear (More productive)
– Conflict; Less frequent(Easily solved)
- Group leader; Helps delegate work + Answer questions
What is Performing?
– Group leader; Rarely intervenes (Only when needed)
– Project; Near completion
– Group; Work autonomously on tasks
– Conflicts; Usually constructive + Related to the project(Not personal) (Solved through group discussion)
– Productivity & Efficiency; High
Decision; Rational(Emphasise on relevant goals, not personal)
What is Adjourning/Mourning?
– Disband (After the conclusion of work)
– Celebrate all that has been achieved
– Recognize individual & team efforts
– Duration; Momentary
– Members; Sad, Excited, Uncertain, Closure (May be assigned to other groups)
– Doesn’t happen in all orgs (Some are quite permanent)
– Why disband; Task completion Or Members decide to go their own way
