what does style of handgrip do
can have dramatic effect on muscles being recruited during that exercise
for functional workouts, we generally see supinated/pronated grip
pronated
supinated/pronated grip is used to activate more bicep, takes out forearms, + brachioradialis
supinated
pronated grip
palms are down + knuckles are up
-also called overhand grip
-ex: traditional pull up, bench press, pull down, rows
supinated grip
palms are up + knuckles are down
-also called underhand grip
-ex: bicep curl
neutral grip
knuckles point laterally, as in a handshake
-ex: hammer curl
hook grip
similar to pronated grip, except thumb is positioned under index + middle fingers
-causes extra grip from the thumb, provides overall more gripping. power
alternated grip
uses 1 hand in a pronated grip + the other in a supinated grip
-must switch every time you lift so you don’t get a preferenced side
