What was the purpose of the temples of the gods?
A
It was to provide shelter and setting for the image of god

What was the Post and lintel?
A
The greeks built their buildings by having an upright structure (post) then the horizontal structure (lintel)

how did they build the columns?
A
The columns were built by having smaller sections called drums which were all attached by having a metal or wooden road down the middle to become the column.

What are the three orders of greek architecture?
A
Doric, Ionic, Corinthian

Explain the Doric Order:
A
- No base
- Rises from stylobate
- Swelling in column
- sharp flute edging
- Frieze has triglyphs and metopes
- Plain and sturdy

Explain the Ionic order:
A
- stand on own base on stylobate
- no swelling
- Fluting edging deeper
- architrave has three parts stepping out
- Has continues frieze often with figures in them
- Graceful and more slender
- have a volute (skroll)

Explain the Corinthian order:
A
- variant of ionic
- contains two tiers of eight acanthus leaves

Talk about the Parthenon:
A
- no absolute horizontal or vertical line in the building
- columns lean inwards to taper upwards
- shaft of columns have slight convex curves
- fluting not as deep at the top as the bottom
- has been optically corrected so we see it perfect.
