They were made from materials that do not last and there is no written records as everything was orally told.
What’s the difference between the Western and African world when it comes to masks?
Masks were made for ceremonies and used in performances/rituals while the Western world sees them as decqoration with no real purpose.
What were the masks made from and how were they decorated?
Carved wood and decorated by engraving, burning, oiling, adding beads, shells and fibres.
Describe the Lindenberg Heads:
Simple facial features and decorative patterns with animal forms on top. There is a decorative band of clay balls dividing forehead from hairline and traces of white pigment and shiny black metals. The heads are made from terracotta clay.

It is a maternity figure that is idealized in Congo as feminine beauty, There are geometric patterns on the chest and back with beaded adornments and prominent hairstyle showing elite status. There is glass fragments in mothers eyes suggesting sculptures commemorative role.
Explain the difference between art and crafts
The main difference is the end goal in creation, Art is used to express an emotion or idea while craft is to create a specific tangible object or product that has a purpose
What is modern art?
Art of a style marked by a significant departure from traditional styles and values, in particular that created between the late 19th and late 20th century
What is contemporary art?
It’s the art of today and broadly includes artworks produced in late 20th century and generally defines art produced after modern art era.
