Graphing Flashcards
What do line graphs show?
They show the relationship between the target behavior (dependent variable) and the intervention (independent variable).
What are the most used graphs in ABA?
Line graphs
What does the x-axis represent?
The passage of time
What does the y-axis represent?
Depicts the target behavior
What are Phase Change Lines?
These lines demonstrate any changes that may have taken place, such as different interventions added or staff changes, so that the behavior analyst can more clearly see if there was a change in the environment that could have caused a change in a target behavior.
What are the Condition Labels?
They demonstrate what phases were in place when data was collected (e.g., baseline, intervention, maintenance, etc.)
What are Data Points?
They illustrate the data collected during a session
What is Data Path?
It connects the data points to help identify the relationships between them. The data path shows trends to help inform decision-making.
What is Level?
The location of data points in relation to y-axis; this shows if there are a high or low amount of the target behavior happening.
What is Trend?
The overall direction of the data path; this gives information about if the current intervention is affecting the target behavior.
What is Variability?
The degree to which the data points deviate from the general path; this shows if there is, or is not, much consistency in the effect of the intervention on the target behavior over time.
What is the Visual Inspection of the graph?
- Did socially significant change occur?
- What was the role of the intervention?
- What are the next steps?
What are Scatterplots?
- Used to identify patterns related to when behaviors occur
- Data points on scatterplots are not connected
- Helpful in structured school settings to determine when behaviors are more likely to occur throughout the day.
