Antecedent and Proactive Interventions Flashcards

1
Q

What do Antecedent and Proactive Interventions have?

A
  1. Have a preferred item visible
  2. Approach the learner
  3. Calm but firmly explain their wanted item/activity is unavailable
  4. Offer choices of alternative preferred items/activities
  5. Visual timers can be helpful- show them when they can access the item/activity
  6. This can also be manipulating the environment beforehand so that a behavior is less likely to occur (e.g., putting staff drinks and food out of reach so that the client cannot attempt to take them; putting the exact number of chairs around for circle time to decrease possibility of maladaptive behaviors occurring)
