Antecedent and Proactive Interventions Flashcards
1
Q
What do Antecedent and Proactive Interventions have?
A
- Have a preferred item visible
- Approach the learner
- Calm but firmly explain their wanted item/activity is unavailable
- Offer choices of alternative preferred items/activities
- Visual timers can be helpful- show them when they can access the item/activity
- This can also be manipulating the environment beforehand so that a behavior is less likely to occur (e.g., putting staff drinks and food out of reach so that the client cannot attempt to take them; putting the exact number of chairs around for circle time to decrease possibility of maladaptive behaviors occurring)
