What is a Diphthong?
When two vowels are side by side to make a different sound
When is the letter “I” pronounced like a “y”?
When it is used as a constant
What does the “v” sound like in Latin?
Like a “W”
What does “er” sound like?
The English word “air”
What is an Ultima?
The last syllable in a word
What is a Penult?
The 2nd to last syllable in a word
What is an antepenult?
The 3rd to last syllable in a word
What makes a syllable long?
- Macron
- Diphthong
- Short vowel followed by 2 or more consonants
How does one determine where to place the stress in a latin word?
- If the penult is long then, stress the penult
- If the penult is not long, stress the antepenult
If a word is two syllables where does one place the stress?
On the first syllable

An ending on a noun that identifies its function in a sentance
