. Staphylococcus toxin causes the skin to shred
. In children under 2 most common
. 3% die
. Treated with oral antibiotics
What is toxic shock syndrome
. Multiple organs are effected
. Desquamation skin on the sole/Palm
. Symptoms are feaver/rash/hypotension
What is MRSA
. Staph infection resistant to antibiotics/penicillin
.Common in the elderly and ICU
. Can be caused by catheters
. Can test with vanamycin

Found on the skin and normal flora
Colonises on lines, catheters and devices so change every 72hrz
What are the symptoms of stephtococci pneumonia
. Sinuses Otis media, pneumonia, meningitis, staph aures.
. 50-10% adults 40% children
. Colonises the nasopharyngeal

Strep
. Pneumoniccal disease
.20% under 2s 65+

Adults- rash/vom/feaver/ha
Child- rash/pale/staring expression/floppy/vom

Cough, rusty sputum, feaver.
How do you treat strep pneumonia
Antibiotics or vancomycin

Vaccine of pneumococcal conjunete/polyactaine

. Can lead to scarlet fever/sinulis/quinsy

EMERGENCY
. Acute infection in deep layer of the skin
. Characterised by red hot pain and selling, gangrene, septic shock.
Caused by- trauma, diabetes, surgical wound, IVDUs

When spores get into a wound and germinate=toxins.
. There is a Gould discharge and pain
. Debridment is essential
. To prevent clean/ debride wounds/ amputation

. Spore forming diohrea
. Causes pseudomembranous couts
. Causes inflamed colon, diohrea, pain, toxic mega colon
Prevention SIGHT (suspect, isolate, gloves&apron, hand wash, test)
Where is staphylococcus normally found
On the skin 30/40%, esepcially in the nose
