what is the definitive dx of gout?
- aspiration
- needle shaped, negative bi-fringent
- make sure to r/o septic joint
how to treat an acute attack of gout?
- indomethacin (NSAID)
- corticosteroids if they can’t take NSAIDs
- colchicine is given regardless (also for prophylaxis)
ho to manage chronic gout?
- allopurinol (blocks xanthine oxidase)
- probenecid
pseudogout
- MC > 60
- MC affects knees, wrists, hips
- polyarticular

Hypophosphatasia

- rhomboid shaped, positive bifringence

how to treat pseudogout
- steroids
- NSAIDs
- colchicine
