Collection:
he urethral meatus is cleaned with gauze soaked in saline
* The purulent discharge is expressed out by pressing at the
base of the penis
* Collected directly on to slides or swabs
In chronic urethritis: As discharge is minimal, prostatic massage is done
to collect the secretion; alternatively, the morning drop of secretion may
be collected.
Transport media
Specimen is collected in charcoal-coated swabs kept in Stuart’s
transport medium or Amies medium

- Predominantly within polymorphonuclear leukocytes in a smear
Culture media
