Goniometry (Wrist) Flashcards
1
Q
Wrist radial deviation Goniometer Alignment
A
- Fulcrum: dorsal aspect of the capitate
- align proximal arm to the midline of arm in reference to lateral epicondyle
- align distal arm to the third metacarpal
2
Q
What is the ROM for ulnar deviation?
A
30-40º
3
Q
Wrist flexion Goniometer Alignment
A
- fulcrum: triquetrum
- align proximal arm with the ulna
- align distal arm with the fifth metacarpal
4
Q
How do you position the arm for wrist goniometry?
A
- Abduct arm to 90º
- Flex elbow to 90º
- Have palm face the floor
5
Q
What is the ROM for wrist flexion?
A
60-80º
6
Q
Wrist extensor digitorum muscle test (procedure)
A
- place arm into full extension and place the hand into a loose fist
- keep wrist in neutral position
- push on the dorsal surface of the wrist until you feel tension
7
Q
What is the ROM for wrist radial deviation?
A
20-25º
8
Q
Wrist Extension Goniometer Alignment
A
- Fulcrum:triquetrum
- align proximal arm with the ulna
- align distal arm with the fifth metacarpal
9
Q
What is the ROM for wrist extension?
A
60-75º
10
Q
Wrist muscle lengthening test (muscles and performance)
A
- Flexor digitorum profundus and superficialis
- normally 10-15 degrees less than wrist extension ROM
- elbow, MCP, PIP, and DIP joints in full extension
- pronate the forearm and place the wrist in a neutral position
- push against the palm of the hand while bracing the forearm and going until you feel resistance.
