glycogenesis Flashcards
What is step one to glucogenesis?
UDP activates G1P for polymerization by removing inorganic pyrophosphate
what is step 2 of glycogenesis?
glycogen synthase makes linear glucose chains by adding to glycogenic
What makes glycogenic auto catalytic?
tryosine glycosyl transferase
What is step 3 of glycogenesis?
branching enzymes introduce a1,6 linkage
a 14 and a16 bond forming are coupled
What does converting one G1P to one UDP-glucose cost?
One UTP
How does the fasted state stimulate glycogen breakdown?
glucagon activates GPCR that stimulates adenylate cyclase to make second messenger cAMP. cAMP activates protein kinase A which creates phosphorylation cascade ending in signal for glycogen phosphorylase
How does the fed state simulate glycogen synthesis?
insulin promotes glycogen synthase which dephosphorylates and activates via PP1 and increases allosteric activation by G6P
What happens to phosphoglucomutase when G6P is high(fed)?
Glycogenesis
What happens to phosphoglucomutase when G6P is low (starved)?
glycogenolysis
What is van gierkes disease?
muscle lacks glucose 6 phosphatase so no glucose exportation into blood. Hypoglycemia, liver enlargement, glycogen accumulation
