glucogenolysis Flashcards
Breakdown of dietary starch process
amylase breaks down nonreducing ends, cleaves 1,4 bonds
glucosidase cleaved branching ends, cleaves 1,6
Where is glycogen stored?
In the liver and skeletal muscle
what is the first step to glycogen breakdown?
glycogen phosphorylase eats nonreducing ends until 4 units from branch point, phosphorylus releases glucose 1 phosphate
what is the second step to glycogen breakdown?
Branching enzyme(transferase) bits off remaining branched glycogen and adds to nonreducing end, leaving one glycogen. Glucosidase bites off last branched glycogen and releases it as glucose
h\What is the third step in glycogen breakdown?
Phosphoglucomutase converts g1p to g6p
What cofactor does glycogen phosphorylase use?
PLP, covalently found via schif base at lysin
What allows for the phosphoglucomutase to do a phosphate change?
phosphorylated serine on the enzyme
