Calvin cycle Flashcards
What is the outcome of the light rxn?
2 NADPH, 2 H+, 3 ATP, O2
What is the outcome of the dark run?
ATP depletion, NADP+ depletion, regenerate light run reactants
Where are NADPH and ATP produced in the light rxn?
In the storm (outside)
What is the carboxylation phase?
RUBP+ CO2 catalyzed by rubisco to make 3PG.
What is in the active site of rubisco?
Carbamylated lysine and MG2+ to attach CO2 to RUBP
Why is this first part slow?
CO2 and O2 hard to differentiate between, form later transition state that leads to inhibition
What is the reduction phase?
Reduction of 3PG->GAP, using 2 ATP, 2 NADPH
3Pg->BPG via PGK
BPG->GAP via GAPDH
What drives reduction?
cleavage of the acyl-phosphate bond
What is the redox pair in Calvin cycle?
NADPH/NADP+
What enzymes are used in the regeneration phase?
aldolase, transketolase, bisphosphotase, kinase, isomerase and epimeriase
How many carbons is the aldolase delta?
3C
how many carbons is the transketolase delta?
2C
What are the regulated steps of Calvin cycle?
rubisco, bisphosphotase and phosphoribulokinase
What activates rubisco?
Change in pH, Mg2+ pumped into stroma, FD+ increasing activate activity
2 GAPS are siphoned off to make what?
amylose and sucrose
