PO: Onset within 15min, nil peak or duration
What conditions indicate Glucose Gel administration?
Hypoglycaemia
What are the adverse effects of Glucose Gel?
Administration may precipitate Wernicke’s Encephalopathy in alcoholics with a thiamine deficiency
What are the contraindications of Glucose Gel?
Reduced LOC or altered gag reflex
What is the preparation of Glucose Gel?
One 37.5g tube containing Glucose Gel 40% (15g Glucose)
What is the correct method of administration for Glucose Gel to patients <1yr old?
Paramedics must administer small aliquots of Glucose Gel via a gloved ginger to patients <1yr of age and carefully monitor the patient for response
What is the dose of Glucose Gel for hypoglycaemia?
If the patient is <1 yr old, the dose is up to 15g, administered BU in small aliquots via a gloved finger.
If the patient is 1yr old or more, the dose is 1 tube (15g) initially, repeatable after 15min to a max dose of 30g.
