target population
the entire group in which the researcher is interested and
about which the researcher wishes to draw conclusions
temporal validity
the ability of results of research to endure over time
transferability
whether analyses from qualitative data can be transferred to
other situations and cases
trustworthiness
a criterion for assessing the quality of analysis in qualitative
research
type 1 error
occurs when the null hypothesis was wrongly rejected
type 2 error
occurs when a null hypothesis was retained (accepted) when it
should not have been
validity
the extent to which data and the interpretation of the data really
reflects the area under investigation
validity (in the context of diagnosis of mental illness)
the appropriateness of
diagnosis and classification – does the diagnosis make sense?
vicarious reinforcement
reinforcement that is received indirectly, by watching
someone else being reinforced
volunteer sample
a sample where participants select themselves to be in the
sample, for example by responding to an advertisement; it is a nonrandom
method
