it is the chronic lack of basic food, clean water, health and housing.
child deaths from preventable diseases such as cholera and malaria.
what is relative poverty?
poverty in relation to other members and families in the society.
the family cannot afford holidays, presents or superior services such as private cars.

when people or families have experienced a natural disaster (earthquakes, floods, drought)
What is generational poverty?
poverty is handed down to other individuals and families from previous generations. trapped ij cycle of poverty.
What are the SOCIAL CAUSES of poverty?
- Lack of access to healthcare.
- Malnutrition at childhood, undermines ability to reach full potential.
- Affliction of diseases such as HIV/AIDS on nations.
- Poor access to affordable education
- Overpopulation and lack of birth control.
The ECONOMIC CAUSES are…
- rising world oil prices and increased farming for crops have increased price of grain.
- weak formal systems if title to private land. so have no incentive to improve it.
- only the rich have land, unequal distribution of land.
what are the ENVIRONMENTAL CAUSES?
- lack of access to fertile land, fresh clean water and minerals.
- Eroded soil and desertification, with loss of soil fertility.
- Deforestation, rural poverty in China.
- Climatic variations which prevents ideal growing conditions. Flooding at the Ganges made poverty worse.
- Drought and water crisis, Palestine.
- Natural disasters, earthquake etc.
