Why was there a gain in food production?

A

-the package of technologies referred to as the green revolution including increased use of new, high yielding crop varieties and tech. Irrigation, fertiliser and pesticides increased yields for millions of farmers, although with some negative social and environmental impacts

  • An increase in globalised trade that addresses seasonality as well as as promoting specialisation of production where it is most efficient
  • Investment in production in low income countries by TNCs and other organisations (governments and NGOs) to increase productivity
