Glands Flashcards
how are glands classified and what are the type of glands
by shape - tubular, coiled, branched, alveolar
by no. of ducts - simple (1) compound (multiple)
simple tubular, simple coiled tubular, simple branched tubular, simple alveolar, simple branched alveolar, compound tubular, compound alveolar, compound tubuloalveolar
exocrine glands
lined with cuboidal cells and secrete outside the body eg sweat glands
what are the 3 ways to secrete from glands
merocrine
apocrine
holocrine
merocrine secretion
product is produced the the Golgi and vesicles move the the surface and discharge
apocrine secretion
product accumulates at apical surface and then breaks down. part of the cytoplasm sheds which contains the product and the cell regrows
holocrine secretion
the cells divide at the base to replace other cells and grow in size causing the cell to burst and release product
