Giving CPR to an adult Flashcards
- Verify person is unresponsive and not breathing
Shout t get persons attention, if no answer, tap shoulder and shout again, check for normal breathing. If no response proceed to care
- Step two of CPR
Place person on back on firm flat surface. Kneel beside them.
- Chest compressions
Place heel of hand in the center of chest or two fingers above the tip end of the breastbone. Put the other hand on top. Position body with shoulders directly over head. Keep your elbows straight and push down at least two inches. Push hard and firm and fast. Give thirty compressions, or a cycle. Compressions should take place at a rate of 100-120 a minute.
- Give two rescue breaths after thirty chest compressions
Place breathing barrier over mouth if available. Open the airway-one hand on forehead and two fingers on the bony part of the chin, and tilt head. Pinch nose shut and make a seal with your mouth over their mouth. Take a normal breath, and blow into their mouth for a second. See if their chest rises or falls. Take another breath. If first breath doesn’t make the chest rise, take another. If the second one doesn’t work either, go to compressions, then try to open mouth and look for a possible choking hazard.
Do not stop CPR unless
Obvious signs of life, AED is ready to use and no other options are available, EMS has arrived, performed approx. 2 min. of compressions, scene becomes unsafe, too tired to keep going.
How to modify CPR for child
Same as adult, but for a small child, do one handed CPR, one hand on chest then compress.
