What is it’s purpose?
A
- to display data on a map, helping us find patterns
- GIS data is organised in layers
- each layer has a theme
- GIS enables us to view only relevant layers, or all (turn on or off)

Raster and Vector
A
Raster data: pixels, used to display land
Vector: longitude + latitude, pinpoints data (eg roads, buildings, woods)

Why is GIS better than traditional maps? 2 reasons
A
- Layers mean you view data that is relevant to you, turning on and off layers
- If a mistake is made it is easily corrected, and it can’t be lost or damaged in the same way as a physical map
