GI motility Flashcards
what nervous system controls GI movement?
enteric
what are the sphincters and what are they made of?
circular muscle thickening. UES, LES, pyloric, odds, ileocecal, internal/external anal
swallow phases
buccal, pharyngeal, esophageal
submucosal plexus
deep, senses lumen, controls epithelium. blood flow/secretion
myenteric plexus
between circular and longitudinal muscle, controls digestive tract motility (can change tone!)
SM contraction
sheets of muscle linked with gap junctions. ICC cells maintain slow waves. lots of things can modulate SM
ICC
interstitial cells of canal, pace makers, have gap junctions, between the muscle layers
esophageal peristalsis
relax (NO,VIP) then contract (ACH) (Vagus)
mass movement vs haustral
4 times a day (gastrin increases) vs every 30 min for 1 min
