When administering enema (soapsuds) then abdominal cramping occurs, what do you do?
This is common. Temporarily stop enema, allow cramp to ease then start again.

Enema is contraindicated for glaucoma cause it may increase pressure, same with increased intracranial pressure

Npo midnight before test.
When flushing PICC line
Use 10 ml water before and after. Flush with 5 ml Heparin only when PICC is not actively used. Replace dressing every 7 days or when soiled

Difference between melena and hematochezia and occult
Melena is black tarry stool from digested blood, hematochezia is bright red blood, and occult is undetectable without testing
Antacid and interaction with other oral medication
When taking antacids, like aluminum hydroxide, wait an hour before taking other oral meds.

Can be used to constrict arterials and reduce inflow to portal vein

May display no coughing but may show aspiration pneumonia within 24 hours
Hyperemesis gravidarum, explain
It is N/V that occurs during pregnancy. This causes electrolyte and fluid imbalance. Patients with this condition are unable to digest nutrition in food and start using fat. This produces ketones.
Ascites and albumin relation.
In liver disorders, albumin going down releases causes fluid to shift out of intravascular space causing ascites. Ascites are mainly caused by portal hypertension.
When giving enteral nutrition feeding, how often do you check residual volume?
Every 4 - 8 hours
What does hot liquid do for constipation?
Causes increased peristalsis
NG tube care
Provide hygiene every 2 hours.
Irrigate and check placement every 4 hours
