What is clubbing a sign of?
Cirrhosis, IBD, coeliacs
What is leukonnychia a sign of?
Hypoalbunaemia in liver cirrhosis
What is koilonychia a sign of?
Iron Deficiency anaemia
What is palmar erythema a sign of?
Hyper dynamic circulation due to Increased oestrogen level in liver disease
What is Dupuytren’s contracture a sign of?
Familial, liver disease
Jaundice in sclera could mean?
Liver disease
What is conjunctival pallor a sign of ?
Anaemia (e.g. bleeding or malabsorption)
What is xacthelasma a sign of?
Hyperlipidaemia
What is glossitis/stomatitis a sign of?
Iron/B12 deficiency anaemia
What are aphthous ulcers a sign of?
IBD (crohns more often)
How many spider naevi are significant?
> 5
What is virchow’s node a sign of?
Gastric cancer
Possible causes of distention?
5 F’s; Fat, Flatus, Fluid, Foetus, Faeces
+ 6th - “fucking big tumour”
What does guarding indicate on palpation?
Peritonitis
What does rebound tenderness indicate?
Peritonitis
Positive Rosvig’s sign indicates?
Appendicitis (palpation of LIF gives pain in RIF)
What is murphys sign?
Palpation of RUQ while inspiration, if patient stops breathing the test is considered positive.. Indicates cholecystitis.
What could hepatomegaly indicate?
Cirrhosis, hepatits, Hepatocellular carcinoma/Mets
What could splenomegaly indicate?
Portal hypertension, haemolysis, malaria.
What could tinkling bowel sounds indicate?
Obstruction
What could absent bowel sounds indicate?
Paralytic ileus/peritonitis
What could ankle oedema indicate ?
Hypoalbuminaeamia
