Order of the GI examination
Exposure from the pubic symphysis to the breast bone
Gen inspection
Shallow and deep palpating all 9 areas identify masses or any deep pain
Palpate for the liver, and spleen (on to right and splint ribs from back) and kidneys using inspiration and expiration
Percuss for the LIVER and SPLEEN
If abdomen distended shifting dullness
Auscultation for bowel sounds and bruits
Examination of the hernial orifices, external genitalia and digital rectal examination
Palpating of the Spleen
Patient onto right side
Splint the left lower ribs
Hand with inspiration and expiration
General examination findings in abdominal examinations
Hands- palmar erythema, palmar pigmentation, liver flap tremor, clubbing
Face- xanthoma, pallor, rings in eyes, jaundice, ulcers in mouth
General- colour, appearance, behaviour and discomfort level
Abdomen- SHAGS- Scars, Hair Loss, AAA (abdominal masses), Gynaecomastia, Spider Nevae
