compression e.g. due to tumor

A
Idiopathic
Gallstones
Ethanol
Trauma
Steroids
Mumps/malignancy
Autoimmune disease
Scorpion
Hypercalcaemia/hyperlipidaemia
ERCP (kidney stone removal)
Drugs (azathroprine, thiazides, tetracyclines)

Symptoms of pancreatitis

A

severe epigastric pain radiating to back
nausea and vomiting
decreased appetite

In history look for:
past gallstones
surgery (ERCP)
alcohol and family history

How to diagnose pancreatitis

A

suggestive history
serum amylase >3x normal
CT suggestive (or ultrasound look for gallstones)
