- Prädikatswein (QmP): Quality wine with special attributes; must come from one of the 13 approved wine-growing regions and made from approved grapes, chaptalization is NOT allowed
What are the categories of special attributes used in Prädikatswein
- Kabinett: fully riped grapes
- Spätlese: literally ‘late harvest’
- Auslese: selected, very ripe bunches
- Beerenauslese (BA): individually selected overripe grapes
- Eiswein: Harvested and vinified while the grapes are frozen
- Trockenbeerenauslese (TBA): Individually selected, raisin-like berries
