GEOMETRIC ISOMERS AND MAJOR MINOR CODES Flashcards

A
there are 2 products because…
- the reagent is asymmetric and the alkene is asymmetric due to the position of the double bond.
- there are 2 carbons forming a double bond that the H and the X can bond to so that there are 2 possible combinations.
- the carbon with the most hydrogens will gain more hydrogens
- therefore blah is the major product since the carbon at the end has 2 carbons and the middle carbon only has 1 hydrogen. therefore the H will preferentially bond to the end carbon
- blah will be the minor product.
