genitourinary system Flashcards
genitourinary system
two kidneys, two ureters, urinary bladder, and urethra
function
excretion of cellular waste products, regulation of blood volume, electrolyte regulation, acid-base balance regulation, arterial blood pressure regulation
cardiovascular vs genitourinary
heart pumps blood filled with oxygen to kidneys..kidneys clean blood, removing waste and extra water…without kidneys our blood would have to much waste and water.
kidneys
remove waste products from body, maintain balanced electrolytes, and regulate blood pressure.
medulla
portion of the kidney containing mostly collecting ducts
cortex
portion of the kidney containing the bulk of the nephron structures (superficial region of kidney tissue)
renal pelvis
basin-like area of the kidney, continuous with the ureter
glomerulus
site of filtration formation
peritubular capillaries
blood supply that directly receives substances from the tubular cells
