What is GMO?
GMO is any organism that has had its DNA modified by gene technology.
What is the difference between Transgenic organism and a Genetic modified organism?
Trasngenic organisms are organsims that have changed their DNA by the introduction of a trans gene from another species artificially.
Wheras GMO is organisma that has been changed in any way by genetic engineering technology.
What was done with the Agrobacterium that was resistant to the pesticide?
They extracted the gene and introduced it to many agricultural crops.
Why was introducing the transgenic gene to canola for eg a good idea?
You can get rid of weeds with the pesiticde without killing the plant.
What are some example of the use of GMOS in Agriculture
- You can incorporate genes to make the crop have more vitamins and nutrients for animals/people
- Incorporating a bacterial gene into the crop, that creates a toxin which kills insects that try to eat the plant
- Can increase Crop disease resitance to improve global food security
What are some issues with GMOS in animals products
1.Vegetarians might be concered that animal genes might be used in plant products
2.Pig genes used in othwr animals, which is not accepted in some religions.
Issues with GMOS in plants
- Labelling laws for people who are concered bout if the food contains GMO
- The spread of unatural genes from GMO to the enviorment, cross pollinating with the natrual plants
- Concern of losing the orignal source of a crop due to outcompeteing it.
Whats so bad about the crops being genetically identical?
It becomes vunerable to dieases as a whole crop, without variation a strain of disease can affect all.

It allows scientits to alter an organism with desirbale traits done for research or commerical purposes.
