Genes (Science) Flashcards
controlled by genes located in the body chromosomes.
Sex-influenced trait
Any pattern of inheritance wherein traits do not segregate following Mendel’s law. These laws describe the inheritance of traits linked to single genes on chromosomes in the nucleus.
Non-Mendelian Patterns of Inheritance
Hypertrichosis pinnae auris
Ex of Sex-Linked genes
A substance that when introduced into the body stimulates the production of an antibody.
Antigen
Genes found either on X or Y chromosomes which are inherited differences among male and a female. Is determined by an X-linked gene when an X chromosome takes control. On the other hand, the so called Y-linked genes are those located on the Y chromosome
Sex-Linked Genes
Is a heterozygote condition wherein both traits are present simultaneously, rather than one fully determining the phenotype.
Codominance
Pattern Baldness-expressed in females but is more often manifested in males
Ex of Sex-Influenced Traits
The hybrid (heterozygous) offspring displays a THIRD Phenotype!! Neither trait is completely dominant, as a result, there appears to be a blending phenotype.
Incomplete Dominance
Occur when phenotypes are different between males and females with the same genotype
Sex-Influenced Traits
Autosomal traits that are expressed in both sexes but more frequently in one than in the other sex.
Sex-Influenced Traits
Traits expressed to only one sex or gender. Generally, it is autosomal which means they are not found on the X or Y chromosomes
Sex-Limited Traits
a different form of a gene that controls a certain trait.
Allele
Male brings X and Y chromosomes, while in females ____________.
Both X chromosomes
Lactation, However, cattle carry genes for lactation on both males and females.
