general review of respiratory, renal, and GI systems Flashcards
pharynx in order
nasopharynx, oropharynx, laryngopharynx
what is in the respiratory zone?
- alveolar sacs (simple squam)
- alveolar ducts
- respiratory bronchioles
what does the epiglottis cover?
the larynx
trachea is made of?
hyaline cartilage in C shaped rings
the left lung has how many lobes?
2 lobes
the right lung has how many lobes?
3 lobes
characteristics of alveolar type II cell?
-secretes oily pulmonary surfactant
does the lung have a hilum?
yes!
what does the urinary system get rid of?
- CO2
- Nitrogen
what % of blood goes straight to kidneys?
20%
what hormone is expelled from the kidney?
erythropoietin! it is excreted in response to low O2
what nervous system is related to the urinary system?
the SYMPATHETIC only!!! there is no PNS here!!!
how many nephrons per kidney?
1 million
what does a nephron do?
it filters the fluid part of the blood to extract Nitrogen
what is the renal corpuscle?
- an enlarged bulbous region of nephron
- glomerulus: where the capillary beds are! NOTE: THIS COMES FROM THE AFFERENT ARTERIOLE and blood EXITS from the EFFERENT ARTERIOLE
blood flow through renal capillary bed?
afferent arteriole —> glomerular capillary bed —-> efferent arteriole —> peritubular capillary bed
structural order of a nephron?
proximal convoluted tubule —-> loop of Henley —> distal convoluted tubule —> collecting duct
juxtamedullary nephrons
special nephrons in the renal medulla!
